Alphabets old and new
this is the third (and last) edition of the book, which is the most comprehensive. thanks to the smithsonian for sponsoring this scan.
of the 3 available copies here, this is qualitatively the best one; for the most part the scan is well done (only a few pages have over-sharpened, jagged text); nothing is cut off at the margins, and the text is easy to read. the resolution is high enough for the fine detail of some illuminated letters, but barely -- if one were to auto-trace these the trace would need a lot of cleanup, and some of the white-on-black alphabets can't be auto-traced at all.. the compression is a bit too high in places; jpg artifacts mildly distract from the text.
